Hot Tub Crane Delivery in Somerset, Wiltshire & Dorset: Everything You Need to Know
Hot Tub Crane Delivery in Somerset, Wiltshire & Dorset: Everything You Need to Know
Getting a hot tub into your garden sounds straightforward, until you realise there's a 6ft fence, a narrow side path, and half a tonne of spa to shift.
We've been lifting hot tubs into gardens across Somerset, Wiltshire and Dorset for over 25 years. From Taunton to Salisbury, Frome to Dorchester, if there's no obvious way in, a crane-mounted lorry is usually the answer.
Here's what you need to know.
Why Hot Tubs Need More Than a Delivery Van
Hot tubs arrive in one piece and most can't be dismantled. They're heavy, anywhere from 300kg to over 1,000kg empty, and often wider than a standard garden gate.
Standard delivery drivers drop to kerbside and leave. That's fine if you have clear, level access from road to final position. Most people don't.
Narrow paths, locked side gates, walls, hedges, garages in the way, sloping gardens, this is where crane-assisted haulage earns its keep.
How Crane-Assisted Hot Tub Delivery Works
We use crane-mounted lorries (sometimes called HIAB lorries) to lift your hot tub directly from the vehicle and lower it into position, over fences, walls, outbuildings, even rooftops if needed.
The lorry parks on or near the road. The crane extends. The hot tub goes where it needs to go. Clean, controlled, no damage to your lawn or your garden fence.
One team. One vehicle. Transport and lift combined.
Our FASSI 66 tm crane can lift over 3 tonnes at up to 16 metres reach, more than enough for even the largest swim spa.
Do You Need a Crane to Install a Hot Tub in Your Garden?
Not always. If you have wide, clear access along the side of the house and the spa can be wheeled or skated into position, you may not need us.
But if any of these sound familiar, you probably do:
The gate is too narrow or there's no side access at all
There's a wall, fence, or hedge between the road and your garden
The garden is down steps, on a slope, or behind a structure
The hot tub is a large swim spa (these regularly exceed 600kg)
You want zero risk of damage to the property or the spa
If you're not sure, give us a call. We've assessed hundreds of sites across Somerset, Wiltshire and Dorset and we'll give you a straight answer.
Can You Crane a Hot Tub Over a House, Fence or Garage?
Yes, this is one of the most common lifts we do.
Provided there's enough space for the lorry to set up, and no overhead obstructions like power lines or protected trees directly above the lift path, we can lift a hot tub over a standard garden fence, wall, or single-storey outbuilding without issue.
Lifting over a full house is a different conversation, that would require a large mobile crane rather than a lorry-mounted crane, and it's far less common. But over a garage, conservatory, or high fence? That's a routine job for us.
We always carry out a site check first and won't commit to any lift without it.
HIAB Hot Tub Delivery β What Happens on the Day
Here's the typical process when we handle a hot tub delivery:
1. Initial chat You call or email us with your address, the spa dimensions and weight (your supplier can provide these), and a brief description of the access situation. We'll often ask for photographs, of access to your property, where the hot tub is going etc, and will tell you straight away whether it sounds like a crane job.
2. Site visit (where needed) For anything complex, low overhead cables, tight lorry access, weight-sensitive ground, we'll arrange a site visit before the delivery day. This takes 20 minutes and prevents a lot of headaches.
3. Delivery day We coordinate directly with your hot tub supplier or retailer if needed. The lorry arrives, we set up, lift, and place. Most hot tub lifts take 1β2 hours from arrival.
4. Handover The spa is in position, the lorry is gone, and there's no mess left behind.
How Much Does It Cost to Crane a Hot Tub Into a Garden?
This is the question everyone wants answered, and the honest answer is: it depends on where you are, how complex the lift is, and whether a site visit is needed.
What we can tell you is that our crane-assisted service combines transport and lifting in one. You're not paying a separate haulier AND a separate crane company AND a separate labour crew.
Many customers find our all-in pricing comes in cheaper than they expected, especially once they've priced up the alternative.
We don't quote online. Give us a call with the basics, your location, the spa weight, and a description of the access, and we'll give you a clear number.

Swim Spa Deliveries β Why These Need Extra Planning
Swim spas are a step up from a standard hot tub. They're longer (often 4β6 metres), heavier (up to 1,400kg empty), and significantly harder to manoeuvre.
We regularly handle swim spa deliveries across the South West, including Somerset, Wiltshire and Dorset. The crane capacity and the approach are the same, but site planning matters more. If you're buying a swim spa, book the access conversation early, before the purchase if possible.
